Mrs. Emma Ofori Agyemang, the Ag. Chief Director of Ministry of Health has assured Principals of HTIs of the speedy approval and implementation of Conditions of Service for the HTIs. She disclosed this on March 31, 2023 on behalf of the Minister for Health, Hon. Kwaku Agyeman Manu in a keynote address delivered on his behalf during a 3-day-Orientation and Refresher Program for Principals at the GRNMA Hostel, Korle-Bu.
The orientation: themed, Managerial and Ethical Leadership was attended by 58 Principals from the length and breadth of the country. It was facilitated by Dr. Peter Yeboah, the Executive Director of Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), Peter Obiri Yeboah Esq., Director of Human Resource, Ghana Health Service and Ms. Georgina Afua Sam, Director of Nursing and Midwifery Services at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. The others were Nii Alasha Dixon, Senior Administrative Manager of the MoH, Ms. Monica Nkrumah, Immediate Past President of COHHETI and Principal of the Holy Family NMTC Berekum and Mr. Felix Nyante, Head of the HTIU of the MoH.
Some of the issues discussed included CHAG, GHS, MoH Relationships and Trends. The others were Ethical Leadership in Academia; The low hanging fruits and hotspots, Community Relations & Key Actors, Bridging the Theory Practice Gap and Emotional Intelligence in Academia.
In his closing remarks on behalf of the Minister for Health, the Executive Director of CHAG, Dr. Peter Yeboah applauded the strengthened collaboration that exists between MoH and CHAG and encouraged Principals to be more ethical and emotionally intelligent in offering academic leadership in the various HTIs noting that it is the Principals who train the chunk of the middle level cadre to ensure attainment of Universal Health Coverage. The Principals were each awarded with a meritorious certificate of participation.
